****************Character Info*********************

Name: Jade Curtiss [an augmented version of him.]. His nicknames include "Jade the Necromancer" and "Father of Fomicry". His former last name is "Balfour", though it is not often recognized.

Fandom: Tales of the Abyss/Era of Manipulation/The Love Hotel
(The latter two are separate RPs in which I have adapted the character - I tend to play this as a progressive linear history. He has experience with being ported into strange situations before, although this will not give him a material advantage or preparations beyond what would be typical.)

Age: 35 in his original universe (normally, people have a difficult time placing it.); 134 total years of living (including his time on Earth); 293 on paper record.

Point in Canon: I suppose that I'll say post canon and post some other things, which will be explained in

History: Jade's history is rather complicated.

In the original universe of his birth, he is considered to be a scientific genius. Considered the "father of fomicry", he was able to harness the power of vibration and unique frequency signatures. He extracted precise DNA and RNA information from an entity, to create clones of the original source of info. This is referred to as the "creation of replicas", and the first successful one was made when he was 9 years old; he broke a doll of his younger sister's and replaced it by creating a replica. While undergoing tutelage, his arrogance led him to attempt to control a power not within ability, and it resulted in the death of a beloved teacher. He tried to "resurrect" her through creating a replica, but only made a monster that he was forced to seal away. Two things followed this event: Jade made the decision to forrbid the practice of fomicry on living organisms due to both ethical and technical issues; and a fellow student of his decided to become his nemesis - Dist, the other student, also loved their teacher and wants to make another attempt to see her revived through fomicry. He is recognized for his achievements and power shortly after and adopted by the Curtiss family, a military family pretty high in rank. He becomes a Colonel serving in the Third Division of the Malkuth military, where it is rumored that he experiments on the dead after battles.

During a training exercise with a protege student, Jade himself is caught in a blast similar to the one that killed his own mentor. After recovering, however, he finds himself in a world different from the one he knew. In this place, he is nearly gored to death by some horrible creature - later revealed to be a demon. In this universe, his powers manifest a bit differently, and he is able to take a similar form. He discovers that he is not the only entity who has been thrown into a world different from their origin. Those demons he encountered are also new to the world they are now in. The blast that sent him traveling, he suspects, was felt on various planes; he ends up on a planet called Earth, in the year 2023. He soon discovers that the humans living here are very different from the ones he's known - and although there is magic, there is no mana; though there are vibration frequencies, they don't quite operate in the same way that fonons do. His attempts to re-create fomicry failed, though he is able to pass as a benevolent demon and be registered as such. Still, his abilities are considered to substantial in comparison to the typical. Sticking to what is familiar to him, he joins a military group run by those who want to protect the newly invaded Earth and the humans in it, resigning himself to living amicably until he can be returned to his own plane. Helping to bring order how Jade remains sane.

While living on this "Earth", he finds his location spontaneously changed once again - though this time there is no detectable force behind it. He finds himself on an island, flush with sprawling amenities and various types of terrain. A large hotel looms in the center. He makes his way there for answers, curiously observing the goings on of other patrons in search for a clue of how he arrives. After a few ...non-consensual encounters, he manages to make an acquaintance or two and discover that the Hotel seems to have a power of its own. It pulls people from various universes to fill rooms when others leave (a time which is determined by the Hotel itself) and puts them in compromising positions. For what sake? Jade made attempts to discover the answer (as well as harness the energy of the Hotel to be sent back home to Aselia as opposed to the "Earth" he had been living in up to that point), but the structure itself seemed to be sentient and he was never able to even get close to any source of energy. Although time did pass at the Hotel, not all areas allowed patrons to see how and when things were happening, and after nearly three weeks of sleeping at the hotel Jade lost track due to interference. He could never find any actual employees in the hotel to kidnap or interrogate; every task seemed to be carried out either consciously or unconsciously by other guests - he himself was used for such a purpose on a few occasions. Quite a few patrons (a few of them veterans, who had been taken to the hotel multiple times) had some trans-dimensional abilities, but despite being able to solicit usage of them, the Hotel prevents use of magic of powers that would allow anyone to leave. One day, he simply woke up and was back in his home on Earth.

As a result of this trip, he opened a full-service dungeon under the name "The Tail End". He is actually licensed for this work.

Personality: (Mostly copied from the Tales of Wiki, because I got lazy - I did make a couple tweaks, however.)

He is almost always smiling, or at least cheerful, regardless of the events taking place around him, giving little indication of his true thoughts on anything. Jade is rather enigmatic. He is sarcastic and witty, sometimes even to the point of cruelty. He has a snide, sarcastic response to even the most serious subjects, and loves to tease his companions. Jade's sarcastic and harsh words are often well-founded, and he uses them to express his often disapproving opinions. Other than amusement, Jade rarely shows any sign of his emotions. However, occasionally he loses his composure and his emotions burst out. The subject of fomicry in particular is a sore spot for Jade, as it reminds him of his past sins. Whenever Jade's feelings betray his calm and collected mask, he quickly distances himself from them. If he is furiously yowling at a character, when another asks what is wrong, he will quickly put on a small smile and act like nothing had occurred.

In his youth, he was, as described by his sister, a "devil" who was highly adept in casting fonic artes (spells, for all intents and purposes here); his sister saw him as one who did not understand the significance of life or perhaps that anything but himself could be sentient, and therefore he enjoyed killing monsters through fonic artes even adults found difficult. He was, however, significantly changed by his teacher, Professor Gelda Nebilim, a healer who commanded the Seventh Fonon, which Jade could not command himself. Her death caused him to feel differently about the value of the lives of the creatures he frequently experimented on. Despite this, he still very much thinks like a soldier; beneath his decidedly lively exterior lies a businesslike and scarily practical soldier's attitude. Deep inside, Jade feels guilty for all the people he has killed, especially Professor Nebilim. Because he is very adept at masking his deepest thoughts and feelings, Jade is often able to see through others when they try to hide things. Despite often being able to see the secrets of others, Jade does not reveal their secrets until the time is right, if they are relevant.

As has been revealed via his time at The Love Hotel, sexually Jade enjoys allowing others to believe they are in control before dominating them.

Items/things:

His spear, Dunamis. (It manifests from his wrist when in battle via fonic artes (magic). Maybe

Abilities:

Normally, he commands powerful fonic (magic) abilities that are associated with each of the major elements (at least the ones that are major where he comes from): Darkness, Wind, Water, Earth, Fire, and Light. Though he has an impressive knowledge of magic using Sound, he is not proficient in using it and after so many accidents from working with it will never attempt to.

These abilities are normally offensive, but he can use them in small quantities for practical things as well - for example, using the combined energy from all five to help form disguises. He has had his abilities reduced and inhibited before on two occasions.

First Person Sample: This is a journal entry excerpt, and there is some timey-wimey stuff involved; just trust that I picked some of the out-of-place tenses purposefully:

Today, we bumped into each other. I was reading a text on Egyptian Rulers and different ways that they used the magic of clairvoyance. There was a passage concerning my namesake and listing specifically her more important roles connected to magic; I was absorbed—and we collided. The pages slid from my grasp and fingers hard with calluses caught them. He, too, dropped something that he was carrying, and I wasn't sure that I was allowed to touch it. He apologized for his clumsiness; I for mine, and we went our separate ways. I had never thought of his hands so much after that moment. The moment that he handed the text back to me, I felt the skin brush against me, and I wanted to feel it again. It is a sensation that I cannot explain, subtle as it was. I wanted it to happen again.

Third Person Sample: Again, an excerpt, so don't worry about not being able to follow what's going on.

"Well, well," the raspy voice said. Brown eyes traversed the table to land on the man sitting behind the wooden desk in before him.

Malik tried his hardest not to sneer while he was on the job. It was unprofessional, and Ishizu had quite a number of appointments due that day. He wouldn't want to ruin any of her guests' opinions about their family business, and if there was a single person good for ruining anything, it was Bakura.

"I see you decided to take over your host's body today."

"Why not? It's just as much mine with which to do as I please."

Malik was still filling out paperwork; he really needed to move some of it to the file room. Unfortunately, he didn't feel motivated to rise up and walk around and with Bakura present, he liked the barrier that the desk provided.

Without looking up he said, "So you just decided to take a trip to our office, on nearly the opposite side of Domino? On a month where we happened to be in the country and in this city? Those two things just happened to coincide with each other." Malik was unable to keep his tongue from coating each word in sarcasm.

"I came here to see you."

"I don't want to see you," Malik answered coolly, licking his thumb to turn a page. Fidgeting, it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep his concentration on the file in his hands. His suit had begun to feel uncomfortable, and it was only because he was here. Malik had been fine before he'd had any visitors. He shifted, straightening the lapel on his black coat and put away his work so that he could fiddle with his tie.

"Of course you do. I came all the way here. Surely you can't take a lunch break."

"I'll only talk to Ryou."

"Oh, I'm hurt," Bakura said, his voice dry. Arms folded across his chest, Malik knew that he was at the very least unhappy.

The Egyptian wanted to shrug his shoulders just to add insult to injury, but he knew his limitations. Incurring Bakura's wrath wouldn't bode well for him. Instead, Malik said nothing, finally rising from his seat to get into the file room to his left. What other words could there be for a spirit he wasn't speaking to? It only took him a moment to find the proper cabinets and drawers, and when he returned to desk there was a horrified Bakura waiting for him –except it wasn't, and Malik noticed the differences instantly.

He couldn't help his smile. "Ryou," he sighed, enveloping the boy in his arms.

Ryou visibly relaxed after seeing his friend. "I was wondering where he dropped me this time." His voice was feather-light. "There's usually a method… to the madness, but this threw me off. I don't know where I am."

"I'm working here this week," Malik answered. "Rishid's got the travel pass, as we call it. Ishizu and I have another client here, and a lot of offers since word's gotten around that the exhibit's back in town."

Ryou was still adjusting to his surroundings. This office was new, after all, and Malik had to remind himself that his friend had never seen it. "…I'm interrupting you at work?"

"Not quite. It's not as though you're the one who made it all the way out here."

"Did he want something from you?"

"Probably, but we're not talking right now."

But, he was talking to Ryou, and there weren't even another full five seconds before the two of them were pressed together, his suit's material crunching loudly against Ryou's striped shirt and jeans. Malik couldn't explain why he felt such a desperate urge to accost Ryou at that particular moment, but once his mouth began moving it wouldn't stop. His hands couldn't keep themselves away, either. The victim of his affections was more startled than he'd been when he'd realized where he was.

Wanted Characters: Peony the Ninth would be nice, but I'm also a fan of Tales of Symphonia and would gladly ship Jade with most of those characters as well. I'm actually also cool with shipping him with anyone who's compatible, though. He's quite... ah, offputting.

Unscreen?: Sure?

Other: I can't think of anything else, other than asking what "No swooping" means :P
